Mechanical Properties of Three Bamboo Species: Effect of External Climatic Conditions and Fungal Infestation in Laboratory Conditions

Bamboo is a material with good tensile and flexural resistance. As construction structural capacity, using bamboo implies considerable environmental advantages in relation to other typical materials such as steel or concrete. For its correct implementation, it necessary define mechanical properties durability. susceptible degradation due the lack of natural toxins thin walls, which means that shallow decomposition processes can imply appreciable reductions capacity. The main degrading agents considered this study were beetles, termites, xylophagous fungi. aim was analyze durability three different species: DS, PA, AA. Durability tests results after 6 months exposure biotic abiotic compared their original chemical composition. In study, analyzed two ways. Firstly, loss mass fungal infection investigated. obtained based on standard EN 113 fungus CP. Secondly, bending compressive strength evaluated test according 335:2013 for CU3.1 use class month period city Donostia/San Sebastian, Spain. DS AA varieties rated very durable CD1, while PA variety CD2, thus proving be an attractive construction.
